College of Humanities

Fostering New intellectuals on national and international cultures
The College of Humanities is composed of ten departments in the field of language and literature, history, philosophy, and regional studies. A total of 66 professors are tasked with developing human resources equipped with a subjective and creative personality to prepare students in the era of information and globalization and to make them capable of contributing to society’s development. Closely connected to the College of Humanities are the Institute of Humanities (which focuses on Korean studies, Oriental studies, and Western studies) and the Gyeongnam Culture Research Center (which consists of the Gyeongnam Culture Research Center and Nammyeong Institute), which aim to pursue human’s truth and to create and succeed systematized local cultures.

Department of Korean Language and Literature KOR

The Dept. of Korean Language and Literature is investigating Korean Language & Literature. The Dept. of Korean Language and Literature aims at investigating Korean language & literatures deeply and thoroughly as well as improving the understanding of world literature.

Department of German Language and Literature KOR

The Dept. of German Language and Literature aims to foster human resources with a high level of German proficiency and professional knowledge in German culture and literature. These professionals are expected to contribute to Korean’s globalization.

Department of Russian Studies KOR

The Dept. of Russian Studies was established responding to the need of systematic investigation in Russian Language & Literature after the system and policy change of Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union occurred. The Dept. of Russian Studies operates a joint-double B.A. degree program with Chita State University.

Department of French Language and Literature KOR

The Dept. of French Language and Literature aims to foster human resources who can be equipped with a wide range of knowledge on France and surrounding areas and a clear vision on international societies through the study of French literature, politics, economy culture, and French regional studies.

Department of History KOR

The Dept. of History deals with the historical change of human society. The Dept. of History provides a right and clear vision to the future human society reflecting on the lessons from history.

Department of English Language and Literature KOR

The Dept. of English Language and Literature is continuously developing English curriculum to make students actively respond to globalization. For this, The Dept. of English Language and Literature provides various programs such as multimedia English and endeavors to foster core human resources for future society.

Department of Chinese Language and Literature KOR

The Dept. of Chinese Language and Literature aims to foster professionals with a high level of speaking ability and understanding of Chinese culture through training in the Chinese language and in the critical appreciation of Chinese literature.

Department of Philosophy KOR

Philosophy seeks to be the completion of intellectual inquiry. For this, the Dept. of Philosophy makes students understand the meaning of life and the world and attempts to free them from errors and prejudices through the critique of cognition and appreciation of life.

Department of Korean Classics in Chinese KOR

The Dept. of Korean Classics in Chinese provides systematic programs for overall Korean study to help students obtain right value, morality and humanity. Through Confucian classics, the Apprentice classics, and historical books, students can learn traditional Korean culture and thought.

Department of Ethnic Dance KOR

Unlike the Dept. of Dance, the connections with universities which focus on the investigation of oversea ethnic dances are considered important in the Dept. of Ethnic Dance. From 2007, the Dept. of Ethnic Dance operates a joint-double B.A. degree program with Sichuan University, China.
