If you want to become a leading scientist in the 21st century, make it come true at the College of Natural Sciences at Gyeongsang National University, the center of cutting-edge science.
The School was established by converging the Departments of Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry to carry out research across all the life sciences. The professors in all fields of life science are devoted to education while actively conducting research. In particular, the School was chosen in 2014 to execute the Specialized Project of Local Colleges, and it obtained the national accreditation for the best school of specialization among the schools selected by the government. The School not only concentrates on imparting knowledge but also carries out field experiments and practice in parallel to learn the technology used in life science studies and cutting-edge life industries at the molecular level as well as in basic life science experimental methods.
Currently, graduates from the School are active in fields such as national and public research institutes, overseas research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, food and environmental companies, public officials, professors, and secondary school teachers.
The Department of Physics educates fundamental principles of nature and their practical applications. The subjects include electromagnetism, statistical, quantum, nuclear, particle, and mathematical physics, and on the practical side, electronic, semiconductor, optical, computational, and data-driven physics. The Department actively employs modern teaching methodologies and the latest experimental equipment, thereby training the students as specialists full of capability. The graduates from the Department are currently active with their careers as researchers, teachers, programmers, and those in physics-related business. In the graduate course, the students are trained as professional researchers under the supervision of the Department's faculties. The Department continually refines the curricula of both the undergraduate and graduate courses according to the faculties' ongoing research activities to enhance the quality of the education.
The Department of Mathematics at GNU is devoted to educating both undergraduate and graduate students in high-level mathematics. The educational goal is to cultivate people with mathematical ability, such as mathematicians and secondary school teachers. The Department offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.
The Department’s faculty have interests in many areas of mathematical sciences, such as Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis, Algebraic and Differential Geometry, Probability Theory, and Applied Mathematics. The faculty conducts research that supports the on-going theoretical development of mathematical sciences and that simultaneously promotes the interdisciplinary use of mathematics in science, engineering, and other fields.
In recent years, our dietary life environment has changed greatly owing to economic growth, the expansion of women’s employment, market opening to the world, the development of the distribution industry, and the development of institutional food service and food service industries.
The Department studies fields related to health, disease prevention and longevity. The Department’s educational goal is to help people choose the right foods in their rapidly changing dietary lives and foster professional personnel to make contributions in improving their overall health and welfare.
The curricula of the Department include sitology, food hygiene, nutrition science, dietary therapy, nutrition education, institutional food service, and cooking principles. The Department trains and fosters nutrition specialists who provide nutrition service and meal service for disease prevention and health promotion. After the students pass the national nutritionist examination, they obtain a nutritionist license to work in nutrition-related industries, hospitals, schools, public clinics, and social welfare facilities as a nutrition teacher, clinic nutritionist, meal service nutritionist, health nutritionist, counseling nutritionist, or other professional related to nutrition.
The Department studies the interactions between the human body and the environment focusing on apparel based on the theories of natural science, social science, and art. The students learn all the areas about apparel study including apparel material, fashion design, color and dyeing, clothing composition, fashion marketing, costume history, and CAD through experimentation and practice. Its educational goal is to promote clothing habits to be of fashion and science and foster experts to work in clothing-related industries.
The graduates work as fashion designers, MDs, VMDs, technical designers, models, museum curators, pattern CAD operators, colorists, and stylists.
The Department studies computer-based statistical methods in collecting, storing, and analyzing data information efficiently. It aims at fostering statistics specialists who can solve real problems using various data based on computer-based statistical theories. To this end, the Department is equipped with various cutting-edge educational equipment including a network environment composed of the latest computers, digital cameras, beam projectors, and other necessary educational tools. Education on information using the Internet is another important subject in the Department.
Currently, the graduates are working as specialists in financial institutions, enterprises, public organizations, and statistical and computer businesses, as well as big data analysts, multi-contents developers, and web programmers.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, which is the only department of national university in Korea, teaches and studies about pharmaceutical engineering theory and practice to train experts in the pharmaceutical industry. The core curriculum is pharmaceutical genetic engineering, pharmaceutical biochemical engineering, microbiology, antibiotics, pharmaceutical formulation engineering, good manufacturing practice (GMP) and pharmaceutical analytical chemistry. Training in the multidisciplinary convergence majors provides knowledge in the development, manufacturing, quality control, and bioactivities of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical ingredients. Furthermore, it develops the abilities typically required by the pharmaceutical industry specializing in pharmaceuticals, functional cosmetics, health functional foods, and medical devices. Currently, graduates work for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic companies as well as research institutes and government organizations.
The Earth is a complex system wherein the solid planet, the oceans, the atmosphere, and life interact in various ways. Understanding the Earth system is essential to satisfy our curiosity about natural science and ensure a sustainable Earth for ourselves and future generations. The students and faculties in the Department of Geology at GNU strive to unveil the nature of geological processes via diverse scopes - Mineralogy, Igneous Petrology, Sedimentology, Volcanology, Environmental Earth Science, Structural Geology, and Geophysics.
