The joint research with Changwon National Industrial Complex and Jinju Innovation City, Enterprises in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Korea Institute of Materials Science, Defense Agency for Technology and Quality is another important role of the College. Furthermore, exchanges with major colleges in advanced countries like the U.S.A, Germany, Japan and those in South East Asia help us grow to be a prestigious college of engineering, cultivating our future.

The Major tries to foster excellent architectural engineers required by the society.
The Major directs the students to design and build convenient, functional and safe buildings using cutting edge science and technology. Especially we concentrate on educating and studying the materials, construction, structural engineering, and environmental equipment engineering.
The graduates may find their jobs at a public enterprise, construction company and architect office, etc.
With the advent of the 4th industrial era, our department focuses on the leading-edge technologies in the field of architectural engineering and related convergence studies for students' career exploration and self-development. Our department is dedicated to cultivating professional and multi-talented engineers with fundamental knowledge and practical skills in the fields of architectural engineering. The undergraduate students learn theoretical knowledge and practical technologies about sustainable architectural systems. We also support a variety of study groups for students for their practical skill improvement and self-motivation. The graduates can find careers in a wide range of fields related to construction, structural engineering, facilities engineering, design and supervision, and more. Recently, the graduates steadily find positions at government-operated companies such as LH(Korea Land & Housing Corporation), KALIS(Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety). Our department is constantly striving to nurture talents who can contribute to the construction industry of the country and local communities.
Since the School was founded in 1984 in the name of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, it has been successfully performing various support projects including Project BK21 and is playing a central role in the exchanges between the university and the industries in the area of mechanical engineering in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. Mechanical engineering is the foundation of basic industries studying basic or applied technology about design, production, and use of machinery and related equipment. Those who major in mechanical engineering are widely required in various fields. In particular, as the role of the machinery sector in the industries in the region is absolute, our competent graduates from the School take on very important roles in the local industries.
The Polymer Engineering major consists of studies of the original technology about polymer-related industries in order for the students to acquire the expertise and creative thinking ability through the knowledge required for its commercialization. The School seeks talented people of creative and challenging minds with virtues such as a sense of responsibility, communicative ability, right sense of ethics, and an internationalized mind.
After graduation, career paths include entering domestic and foreign graduate schools, various industries, national research institutes, and public institutions as well as being civil servants.
The Metallurgical Engineering major consists of studies in the development and characteristics of Nano and new metal materials, which are at the foundation of cutting-edge and basic industries. The Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering has made rapid progress over the past three decades, and as a result of the evaluation by the University Education Council, it has been designated as an excellent undergraduate and best graduate school in the field of materials and has been selected as a national laboratory by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In particular, the research results of the School and its lab facilities are the best in Korea and near world class in the following fields: batteries,, shape memory alloys, nanopowders, aircraft materials, powder metallurgy, fracture analysis, and structural materials.
In addition, research and education are jointly conducted with related industries and research institutes. Both domestic and foreign experts are periodically invited to hold seminars and classes. The School has been fostering competent students required for the industries and research institutes through visiting industries, on-the-job training, and joint research programs with the industries.
Ceramics research requires an understanding of the structure of atoms, the interatomic bonding relations, and the reaction phenomena of materials to energy and the environment. In this major, students acquire basic theories such as material engineering, thermodynamics, crystallography, photoelectromagnetic properties, and raw material synthesis based on physical and chemical higher education. Through varous experiments, the students also learn the theories used in material processing and analysis such as ceramic processing, material analysis, and thin film and semi-conductor materials.
The students study data statistics analysis to enhance their expertise in the materials required for future industries, along with studies in comprehensive material design, new energy environmental materials, nanoceramics, and ceramic composite materials.
The School is founded at the only one stronghold national university in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, and since it was established in 1985, it has been cultivating industrial engineers required for the region and the nation. The School at Gyeongsang National University provides industrial engineering technology and education required for the region’s key industries, such as machinery, aviation, and shipbuilding. The School provides education in new industrial engineering using big data and AI to cope in the era of digital revolution.
Architecture is a dwelling environment of human beings to support and protect the people and all of their activities, which consists of functional, structural and aesthetic space. Therefore, architecture is the basic study to deal with “Dwelling” which is one of the bases of us, that is Clothing, Eating and Dwelling. It is a multi-academic study to create the bowl putting the life of human beings in it beautifully and scientifically. To be more in detail, it studies overall subjects evenly such as the arts including music, painting and sculpture, humanities and social sciences such as history, psychology, aesthetics and philosophy, science and technology including physics and engineering. Therefore, architecture is a comprehensive study incorporating arts and science. Lots of professional people produced by the Department of Architecture are working at the architect office, construction company, education and public administrative organizations related to architects across the country.
The Department fosters field-adapted/customized R&D talents with engineering knowledge and corporate practice by spatially integrating the corporate research institutes and universities of the Changwon National Industrial Complex.
After graduation, students’ career paths include sectors in mechanical industry, machinery and automobile industry, heavy industry (shipbuilding), electronics, construction, aviation and public enterprises.
Urban Engineering is a field that studies the theories and technologies for planning, developing, and managing our land and cities into more beautiful and smart spaces. The students study not only new town and urban development, but also land use plans in which residential, commercial, industrial, and green areas are properly developed as physical spaces, such as roads and parks in order to positively solve the issues of traffic, housing, and environmental concerns of urban areas.
Urban engineering currently belongs to the College of Engineering, but due to the nature of the study, it is a 21st century convergence study that aims to comprehensively solve urban issues in connection with social science fields, such as geography, landscape architecture, public administration, natural science architecture, and civil engineering. It pursues practical studies that are closely related to our daily life.
The Department was established in 1987, and it is the only urban engineering department in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The demand for students majoring in urban engineering is high in academia, public officials, and industries. As such, the Department of Urban Engineering will be the best choice for students who wish to lead the era of urbanization in the 21st century.
Cutting-edge technologies in diversified areas are fused in an automobile, which requires high performance, safety, comfortability and eco-friendliness. A good car is borne from science and technology inspired by artistic sensibility, excellent design, and engineering perfection. Furthermore, the automobile industry represents the capitalist consumption economy, and its transaction is made available by global production and supply of its parts and components, as well as supplying networks across the world. The automobile is the most attractive product that can be owned by individuals. Recently, based on the traditional automotive industry, electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and smart mobility are changing and developing in various ways that pursue eco-friendliness, convenience, and safety.
The Department was established in 2013 to foster professionals of energy engineering to meet the requirements of the times by considering the structure of the future energy industry while simultaneously meeting the demand for qualified manpower and current status. Contributing to national development, leading the growth engines in the energy sector, in connection with the university’s mission, goals, and characteristics, the Department aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the university.
Energy engineering is a convergence discipline that deals with research, development, system operation, and management in order to make efficient use of limited energy resources and convert current energy into sustainable eco-friendly energy. In the case of South Korea, which is highly dependent on foreign energy, next-generation energy technology plays an important and critical role in enhancing the nation’s competitiveness. Furthermore, it is one of the cutting-edge engineering areas responsible for the future of mankind. In this regard, the Department educates and trains students to be creative professionals who will lead future energy fields in the areas of hydrogen energy, fuel cell, bio and waste energy, solar energy, secondary battery, smart grid, and energy policy.
Civil engineering is the study of planning, designing, and building social infrastructure facilities such as roads, harbors, airports, bridges, tunnels, power plants, water dams, irrigation, water and sewage, and public transportation. Such facilities improve the quality of life for modern people, protect them from natural disasters such as floods, droughts, earthquakes, and typhoons, and provide conveniences of daily life. Therefore, these facilities are the most basic, personally and socially.
The Department fosters students to have broad basic and practical engineering knowledge to be able to efficiently combine biotechnology (BT), information communication technology (IT), nanotechnology (NT), energy and environment technology (ET) to be capable chemical engineers. Making use of traditional concepts in chemical engineering, the Department tries to expand their areas of interest into the core technology of growth engines required in the 21st century.
As chemical engineering is the only area to study the processing skills for production among all the engineering subjects, graduating students can find their jobs, without limiting the scope of application, at current large scale industries such as chemical engineering industries, automobiles, shipbuilding, aviation, electronics, energy, and environment.
