The School operates three departments like the Department of Mechanical system engineering, New renewable energy convergence and Construction safety engineering.
Characteristics of modern mechanical engineering can be described as follows: Understanding natural phenomena based on physics, analysis and application of the phenomena using a computer system, design and production using a computer system, development of automation and system engineering, design and production of goods considering environment, enlargement of magnitude such as nuclear power plant and aircraft, combination of machinery, electric, electronic and material technology. Primary goal of education of majoring in mechanical engineering is to foster high grade mechanical engineers required for industrial fields and the professionals working in the area of research and development, who will lead developing the mechanical engineering and advancement of industrial technology required.
This major aims at cultivating high-quality human resources to apply the research results in the area of mechanical engineering and its dynamic knowledge to design, analysis, production and test of the products and guide them to make contributions to the automobile and heavy industries located in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The students grow to be creative global engineers going through the process of designing mechanical systems and solving new engineering issues and announcing their thesis internationally.
The Major deals with synthesis of the core materials, structural analysis, fabrication and production process, which is required by the areas of information technology (IT),biotechnology (BT), Nanotechnology (NT), environment technology (ET) and space technology (ST). Systematic research and education on the above fosters the experts in line with the progress and advancement of material technology which becomes the foundation of developing strategic industries in Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

The major is specialized in studying green energy that ignites the low carbon green growth engine, creating future high added value and jobs, in preparation for climate change and promoting green transformation of industry such as converting into the society of low energy consumption and reducing greenhouse gas. To be more specific, it studies a secondary battery, fuel cell, solar cell, wind power energy, bio energy and optical energy , etc. Eventually it aims at fostering talented engineers of convergence to meet the requirements of the industries in the region.
Educational goal of the major is to cultivate high-quality technical human resources that will lead the cutting edge energy science technology and re-educate them as well. They acquire and intensify basic concepts of broad electric engineering and develop reasonable and creative technology in preparation for the complexity and diversification of scientific technology. In particular, engineering leadership is regarded as most important such as the ability of presentation, ability to analyze the social ripple effect of engineering technology and vocational ethics.
Electronic engineering has been leading the current development of science and its demand from the industries is the greatest. Educational goal set by this major is to foster competent engineers with creativity, ability to practice and pioneering spirit, who can play a leading role in the community which needs high quality engineers. The curricula of the major are provided in line with such goal to make contributions to developing cutting edge industries by the experts having both theory and the practical business skills
The major is to foster the engineers demanded by electronic industries including semiconductor devices and display panels. They study basic electronic engineering including the circuit theory required for the structure and driving of the device, understanding on the material and physics required by the industrial fields, design of the semiconductor for design and application of the electronic devices and also the telecommunication engineering. We operate various kinds of laboratories for research, test and on-the-job training. Also clean rooms and equipment to produce semiconductor devices and LCD panels are provided for education and research.
The major provides the curricula to learn the core and basic technology about control systems, robots and energy and diversified classes related to the above subjects are open to the students. Furthermore, the students can proceed with their study on diversified areas including industrial robot control, theory and application of the control, image processing, developing digital control, motor control, power conversion system, aircraft control, embedded system, intelligence control and application of new renewable energy relation to green growth.
The major tries to foster the students to develop multimedia systems, which are essential in the society of informatization. They study new multimedia related technology to actively cope with its rapidly growing system and its application. They will take a leading role in developing various multimedia systems and their application used by public institutions, educational institutions, business and research institutes.
The major fosters the experts developing software systems, who will lead the society of informatization. They learn how to develop the systems under the Internet information environment most successfully and also they are trained to have high-quality information skills to solve and improve various problems of current software systems.
The society of informatization requires the information processing experts who can draw valuable information from inundating data. In accordance with such requirements, we try to develop the information processing experts having computer based theory and skills required to dig up information needed to make decisions by way of collecting information from the real and virtual world (Internet) and fabricating it.
Information communication engineering is to study storing, processing and distributing multimedia information, which includes communication, computer hardware and software technology. Accordingly, the students study efficient communication of multimedia information such as voice, text, image and video and the hardware and software which enables such communication as well. Competent engineers of information communication having leadership, cooperative mind and service spirit suitable for the new paradigm of the 21st century are cultivated.
The major studies the food, essential stuff for our living and development and production of useful vegetation resources. The students study cultivating major food crops including rice, barley, wheat and bean and functional crops like medicinal plants along with how to cultivate and control them. Its curricula provide fundamental studies for the crops and useful plants, which include physiology, genetics, spermology, cultivation and statistics. Increasing productivity and improvement of the quality can be expected by such studies to secure a stable supply of food in the 21st century, seeking environmental preservation at the same time.
The major studies the theory and skills about multiplying, cultivating, producing, treating after reaping, breeding and adjusting the environment of horticulture cultivation facilities. Also the students learn livelihood horticulture to introduce plants, the elements of nature, to the life environment, flower designing, gardening botany and gardening as well. The major puts its educational goal on establishing a beautiful and pleasant outdoor environment by ornamental plants (flowering and gardening plants) along with supplying high quality fresh horticultural products (vegetable and fruit) for table use in order to make contribution to building an affluent society with them. The major provides such curricula as fruit science, garden products thremmatology, seed-gathering science, flower horticulture, plant tissue culture science, gardening botany, gardening science, vegetable horticulture, horticulture production storage science and greenhouse horticulture and also related labs are ready for use. The greenhouse horticulture course of the college was designated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as core facilities of research and also the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries designated it as a specialized research area. At the moment, the college operates Agricultural Meister College supported by the said Ministry and specialized project teams for paprika, rose, chrysanthemum and sweet persimmon supported both by Rural Development Administration and Agricultural Research Services of Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

Based upon the basic principle of biology, it deals with practical and applied science that can be applied to agriculture and living organism industries, making use of the technology of molecular biology and biotechnology.
studies the mechanism on the occurrence of mold, virus and bacteria by way of pathology molecular genetics, along with the plant related microorganism and protecting the plant. In addition, the major tries to develop a system that can diagnose the plants in early stages. Other areas of the study are about the ecology of weeds that disrupts agricultural productivity continuously and herbicide physiology of weeds. Three labs specialized in studying plant bacteriology, fungal plant pathology and weeds prevention and plant stress physiology are provided.
studies insect classification, physiology and insect ecology and biotic pesticide to control the insects and harmful insects. In particular, we concentrate on studying the functions of physiology and protein expression that lead to the cutting edge of life science. In addition, we study the nematode which is parasitic on the insects and plants along with the aforementioned subjects. The studies are carried out at the four labs as below: lab for studying the insect classification, physiology and ecology and nematode science to control the insects and harmful insects, lab for insect ecology and insect physiology chemical ecology science and the lab for molecular biology.
More interest and efforts will be made to find the best solution to control microorganisms and insects which seriously affect the food of human beings and the surrounding environments.
The environmental biochemistry is directly connected to the vital phenomenon of the people and it deals with future oriented study to solve the health, food and environments which are the imminent common subjects of the people. In this regard, we foster the students to be an expert in the bio-industries and environmental industries which lead the knowledge based society of 21st century. Systems to strengthen the basic knowledge on the overall bioscience and environmental science have been built well. Those who majored in the said science may find their jobs in the following areas: development of useful material by protein engineering, functional crops, bio material for food and medicine, environmental recovery system, technology to cope with global warming and eco-friendly nutrition management technology.
The major studies the environments in the rural areas and basic engineering concerned (current agricultural engineering) and the graduates get master’s degree, if their thesis is approved. The students of master’s degree course learn and acquire professional knowledge on the agricultural facilities, environmental engineering, irrigation and drainage and agricultural engineering. To be admitted to the master’s degree course, the applicants should graduate from the Department of Regional Environment Based Engineering (previously Dept. of Agricultural Engineering) or other similar departments in the undergraduate course. But for those who studied other engineering sciences, or subjects related closely to physics or biology, their admission is granted, if they satisfy certain requirements of the school.

Food Engineering studies the dietary life of mankind, approaching it from the viewpoint of engineering science. In other words, it promotes improvement and advancement of dietary life for the health and happiness of people, supplying food of high quality by developing new food resources and hygienic processing technology. The Department of Food Engineering teaches basic theory and professional knowledge required for the process, production and consumption of foodstuff using agricultural, livestock and marine products. It fosters the students to be a researcher, engineer, manager or leaders in the related area of business.
The Major grafts engineering knowledge and skills to the agricultural life science to develop and advance the theory and applied technology about design, production, use and management of various machineries and devices related to the production, process and storage of agricultural, forest, livestock and marine products including food. Thus advancement of productivity, improvement of environment and enhanced economic feasibility of agriculture and biological resources are promoted. It also includes production and management of energy and control and management of the environment. The major is divided into organism production machinery, electric power and energy and processing machinery, together with agricultural environment and facilities, new composite technology and information processing. Bachelor, Master or Doctor’s degree of Engineering Science is granted to those who complete all the courses and whose thesis or dissertation is approved.
The Major studies characteristics of the forest products produced in the forest to process them to be used as useful material. Their physical, chemical and structural features are analyzed to produce eco hybrid timber material including plywood, fiberboard, lamination wood. Those whose properties are analyzed and evaluated are used to produce furniture, interior design, musical instruments, timber houses. Also the fibrous material obtained from the wood is used to produce pulp, paper, bio ethanol, bio pellet, nano-cellulose, paper, etc. Special types of forest products like the sap of the lacquer tree and mushrooms, improvement and preservation of timber are also listed in the subjects of research of forest engineering. The students who majored in the subject are made specialists of forest engineering.
The Major studies clinical nutrition systematically and hospitals and public clinics provide the space for the students to practice clinical nutrition. We are cultivating dieticians who have a sense of duty and practical ability to satisfy the requirements of our society. They carry out nutrition treatment for the patients to be recovered from disease and to prevent complications through proper supply and control of nutrition. Understanding the purpose of hospital meal service, the students learn to be able to make menus for the patients and evaluate their nutritional conditions and provide nutrition consultation for the patients. Also the students learn the nutrition business of medical institutions referring to the medical records of the patients and duties of the clinical dietician.
In this regard, it makes contributions to developing the studies on clinical nutrition making use of the results of clinical nutrition study as well as performing practical works of clinical nutrition, while helping the medical staff to treat and prevent disease of the patients.
The Major systematically combines the theory and approach required for securing the safety of food to ensure the standard and hygiene of food, improve the food related environment, control food quarantine, control functional food and genetically modified food having market potential. The students majoring in the HACCP play an important role in the organizations of food hygiene control.
The Major studies the pollution on the shore and in the sea and the red tide caused by its interaction, global warming, eutrophication, water pollution, oil contamination to solve and prevent such environmental issues. Furthermore, the students study professional knowledge and skill required for working not only in the environmental facility industries but also water and sewage treatment, industrial waste water treatment and air pollution control business. We aim at fostering creative and dynamic marine environment specialists who will lead sustainable development and green growth of the state.
The Major aims at cultivating the students to have creative and comprehensive ability of energy related mechanical engineering by way of developing diversified energy mechanical engineering from its basic to the cutting edge applied technology to maximize the harmony with the field technique and deepen practical research through in-depth education on the major subjects. Furthermore, theory and practice are studied and educated for the modern industrial technology for them to play a key role in developing the technology and industries.
The Major pursues explanations on the vital phenomenon using the material of marine products and perfect use of them to make diversified use and investigate the functionality of marine creature resources. The students study how to develop processing of the high functionality food, create new products, standardization of traditional marine products using cutting edge techniques and develop medicine of high value added and development and use of new creature material, industrial use of the non-utilized waste resources.
The Department of Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering of Gyeongsang National University sets its educational goal to foster global professional human resources who will take responsibility for leading the engineering technology of shipbuilding and marine engineering of South Korea which has been leading the said industry in the world. The students learn the theory and conduct experiments required for designing, building and analyzing the performance of merchant ships, LNG carriers, high speed boats, fishing boat, passenger boat and warship. In addition, they also study high level theory which is the base of designing and building the ships of new concepts and high added value like FPSO, drillship, ultra-large container vessel and passenger boat. They come to understand the system and technology of shipbuilding and marine engineering through such education as above.
The department was established and operated by the request of the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises and Startups of Korea to promote attracting human resources working for the small and medium enterprises.
The department sets its goal to foster the engineering college graduates working in the small and medium companies to be more capable and professional engineers with practical working capability required by the companies.
Through the tailor made curriculum with Korea South-East Power company, we foster the professional human resources for new renewable energy.
The new renewable energy engineering accords with the government policy of low carbon green growth and agrees with the global trend of increasing power generating capacity by the new renewable energy and the regional development plan of Gyeongsangnam-do Province. Accordingly, industrial development and expansion of this kind of industry is definitely required.
The Department fosters talented human resources to acquire their specialty in construction safety and perform their leading roles in the said Corporation according to its demand for qualified manpower.
The Corporation requires professional and qualified personnel for safety control in the design and installation of construction works including civil engineering.
Cultivating high grade key personnel is required based upon systematic education for construction safety engineering at the level of master’s degree course.
