As the era of internationalization has come, International standardization of engineering education is being conducted mainly by advanced industrial countries in order to have the model of engineering education required by the global community of knowledge technology in the 21st century, and also to raise top-level engineers who will be recognized In responding to the trends in Korea, Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) has been established in 1999 in order to suggest proper criteria and guidelines for standardization of engineering education and strictly implement the accreditation system for circumstances in Korea, Innovation Center for Engineering Education at GNU has been founded to operate the accreditation system of engineering education in March 2006, as an affiliated organization of College of Engineering. Management Center for Accreditation of Engineering Education, Its initial title, was changed into the current one in October 2007. After that, as its affiliation has been moved from College of Engineering to the Head Office of GNU in March 2009, the work coverage has been expanded as well. GNU has been operating its accreditation program for engineering education in accordance with ABEEK criteria since 2002, and content of those programs is under ABEEK's intensive management including periodical assessment procedures. In addition, selected for Engineering Education Innovation Support Project (completed on February 29th, 2012) in December 2008, the center has been eagerly developing diverse specialized education programs as well as industry-academy cooperation systems in the region. By operating various innovation programs and accreditation systems for engineering education, the center is supporting engineers who graduated from GNU, so that they meet the international engineering standard and also have capabilities that deserve the global recognition as engineers.
